Minibeasts
This week we have gone minibeast mad in Reception!
Have a look at our amazing clay minibeasts!
We had lots of fun today building bug hotels - we thought carefully about the kind of environment the bugs might like to live in - we can't wait to have a look tomorrow and see who has moved in!
I wonder if we will see any of these insects...

The Life Cycle of a Butterfly
We've been enjoying this song that teaches us all about the life cycle of a butterfly.
We pretended we were butterflies hatching out of cocoons...
Can you tell an adult at home all about the life cycle of a butterfly?

Colouring flowers!
We have been busy scientists this week in Reception. We have been learning about the different parts of a flower and what they do. We wanted to test and see if the stem really does carry water up to the petals. We decided to put white flowers into coloured water and see what happened.
We added different dyes to the water. We talked about what we thought might happen and made some predictions...
"I think the flowers will die if we put coloured water in"
"I think that the petals might change colour - pink, no I think blue - because the water is blue."
"I think the one that is half in the red water and half in the blue will look like a British flower"
"I think it will just be the same tomorrow because it takes ages for plants to grow"
We were amazed to see the results!
Can you explain to an adult why the flowers changed colour?
Do you know the different parts of a flower?

RL News Report: After the Storm
This week we have been enjoying our new Percy story - 'After the Storm'. If you'd like to watch the video of 'After the Storm' visit our literacy videos page by clicking on the tab at the top.
This morning we got a phone call from Percy who told us there had been a terrible storm in the nature garden last night! We sent a team of news reporters to have a look at the damage .... We also had a go at writing some fantastic newspaper reports as well.
Have you ever seen a storm? Were you outside? Can you describe what it was like? Why don't you comment below and tell us about it.
