Ice lollies!
What a hot day it was today!
We made ice lollies to help us cool down...can you tell an adult how we made them - use the pictures to help you remember.
What happened to the water when we put it in the freezer? How did it change? What happened when we left the chocolate in the sun? Why did it change?

The Life Cycle of a Butterfly
We've been enjoying this song that teaches us all about the life cycle of a butterfly.
We pretended we were butterflies hatching out of cocoons...
Can you tell an adult at home all about the life cycle of a butterfly?

Colouring flowers!
We have been busy scientists this week in Reception. We have been learning about the different parts of a flower and what they do. We wanted to test and see if the stem really does carry water up to the petals. We decided to put white flowers into coloured water and see what happened.
We added different dyes to the water. We talked about what we thought might happen and made some predictions...
"I think the flowers will die if we put coloured water in"
"I think that the petals might change colour - pink, no I think blue - because the water is blue."
"I think the one that is half in the red water and half in the blue will look like a British flower"
"I think it will just be the same tomorrow because it takes ages for plants to grow"
We were amazed to see the results!
Can you explain to an adult why the flowers changed colour?
Do you know the different parts of a flower?

RL News Report: After the Storm
This week we have been enjoying our new Percy story - 'After the Storm'. If you'd like to watch the video of 'After the Storm' visit our literacy videos page by clicking on the tab at the top.
This morning we got a phone call from Percy who told us there had been a terrible storm in the nature garden last night! We sent a team of news reporters to have a look at the damage .... We also had a go at writing some fantastic newspaper reports as well.
Have you ever seen a storm? Were you outside? Can you describe what it was like? Why don't you comment below and tell us about it.

RDW Rescue Party
RDW Rescue Party
We have enjoyed reading the story about Percy the Park Keeper called The Rescue Party, where rabbit got stuck down a well. We sent a rescue party to our Wildlife Area to help Percy help rabbit to escape ... but she was stuck up a tree instead! We did teamwork to decide how to rescue rabbit and worked together to get her down from the tree. Look at what great teamwork we have been doing and how we share our ideas with one-another.Monday, 22 April 2013

area to have a go at rescuing rabbit from different places.
Here are some children in RL having a go at rescuing rabbit from the well.
You can watch the video to see how rabbit manged to escape in the story...

Uganda
Hello lovely Reception!
I hope you have all had a fantastic break and are looking forward to coming back to school on Tuesday!
I have enjoyed a lovely trip to Uganda, in Africa. I was so happy to take with me all of the shoes and clothes that you and other children at Woodmansterne brought in. Here are some pictures of the children enjoying their new shoes.
School in Uganda can be very different to school in England.
Here is one of the classrooms. What can you see that is the same and what is different from our classroom?
In Uganda the children enjoy a drink called porridge during break time. What do we have for our snack at school?
The children have to wash their hands first just like you do. These children are washing their hands outside using rain water that has been collected in a tin can.
The children enjoy drawing and playing football just like lots of children at Woodmansterne do.
I can't wait to hear what you have been up to in the holidays. Why don't you comment below and tell everyone.
Miss Lunn :)

Rapunzel - witch traps!
We have been having lots of fun learning about the story of Rapunzel. Today we decided we wanted to free Rapunzel from her tower. We thought of ways we could help her and decided to make a witch trap!
This afternoon we had a fantastic time building traps to catch the witch. We worked together and then took it in turns to test our traps.
Once we had caught the witch we had a go at asking her some questions. Can you remember why the witch locked Rapunzel in the tower?
" When the water goes onto the witch it will make the witch melt" - Dylan and Noah
"When you press this button it will help us to find the witch - this bit is a computer screen it can tell us where the witch is. " - Khaira and Aimee
"You throw out this bit that looks like a plane but hold onto the other end of the string. When it touches her it will electrocute the witch." - Joe
"When the witch is walking past you have to pull the string and it will fall down on her and get her. You've got to hold it up - or you could use this stand to hold it if you don't want to be too near the witch. You can't let her get you." - Khalil
"It didn't work it was too heavy" - Angell

Chicks!
This morning in Reception we had a look at Year 1's chicks!
Year 1 had 10 eggs. The eggs were in an incubator to keep them warm. The eggs all hatched and now there are 10 chicks.
Some of the chicks we were looking at were only 1 day old! We used our quiet voices so we didn't scare the baby chicks.
We used our gentle hands to hold and stroke the chicks. How did the chicks feel when you touched them? Can you think of any good words to describe the chicks?
We noticed that there was a light bulb in the chicks house - can you remember why the light bulb was there?
Have a look at the YEAR 1 BLOG to hear more about these lovely chicks.
