Chinese New Year

Wow what a fun time we have had this week celebrating Chinese New Year!

We  learnt about some of the ways people celebrate Chinese New Year…

We made paper lanterns and special red envelopes with money inside.

Can you remember why the envelopes are red?

We listened carefully to find out how the animals of the Chinese Calendar decided who would have which year named after them.

Can you remember which animal won the race?

Click here to watch the story again

We made our own calenders using pictures of the different animals. Can you remember which animal it is this year?

We looked at a hat that had come all the way from China. We had a go at making our own hats. Can you remember what shape our paper was to start with?

We decorated boxes and joined them together to make a big dragon's head! We used our dragon to perform dragon dances during 'Get Busy' time!

This morning we had so much fun having a Chinese New Year party.  We enjoyed playing instruments and  dancing to the music . We waved ribbons and made our little dragons dance too.

Safer Internet Day

Tuesday the 5th of Feburary was Safer Internet Day

In Reception we LOVE using the internet to help us with our learning...

We read a story about Smartie the penguin.

Click here to read it again

We talked about some of the ways Smartie could make
sure he was staying safe when he used his new laptop.

Afterwards we made a poster showing our ideas for keeping safe when we use the internet...

We made a video to help us remember the right thing to do...

Can you remember Smartie's rhyme...

What do you think of our video? Can you think of any other rules we should follow to keep us safe on the internet? Why don't you comment below and share your ideas.

PIZZA MAKING!

In reception we have been very busy making pizzas.  First we made dough and used our baking skills to help us shape the dough ... we kneaded, chopped, stretched, rolled and squeezed the dough into a pizza shape!

We learned the names of some new tools and the names of some different ingredients.  What ingredients did we use?

We learned how to handle different tools carefully; we used a cheese grater, a garlic press, and a knife to chop.

Our pizzas tasted delicious!

Look at us mixing the pizza dough!

We used the rolling pin to flatten the dough.

We used the garlic press ... we had to press it very hard!

MMM ... our pizzas were soon ready to go in the oven.

                                                    DELICIOUS!

RDW MAKE SANDWICHES

Sandwich Making

We had lots of fun making sandwiches on Friday!  We chose the fillings we wanted to have and used a knife really carefully to spread on some butter and to cut our sandwich in half.   Some of us had Dairylea and some of us chose strawberry jam.  We enjoyed eating them with our friends, they tasted very yummy!

Can you describe how we made our sandwiches to a grown up at home?

First we ...
Then we ...
Next we ...
After that we ...
Finally we ...

We used our sequencing language to help us remember how we made our sandwich.

Look at us using the knife really carefully!

We are good at sharing together.

Hello Reception!

This week, the book we are doing lots of learning around is The Little Red Hen! Have a look at this lovely video of the story.

Snow!

Wow - What fun we had learning in the snow on Friday!

                        We printed patterns...

We used sticks to draw and write in the snow...

We experimented with different ways of moving...

...and imagined we were ice skaters!

We looked carefully at the shapes of the snowflakes...

We noticed changes in the snow and thought about what might make the snow turn to sludge....

We even used paint to decorate the snow!

Making and painting a snow hamster!
It was fun to mix different colours in

We hope you've had an enjoyable and safe weekend in the snow.

I had fun making a snowman!
What did you do?

Did you go sledging? How did you keep yourself warm?  Why don't you comment below and tell us what you've been up to?

Missing Gingerbread Men!!

This morning Reception were very busy making gingerbread men.

We put them in the oven to cook but when we came to get them out of the oven we got a surprise  - THEY WERE GONE!!!!

Have you seen our gingerbread men?

This afternoon we looked EVERYWHERE! Some children suggested we split up into teams to find them. Some wondered if there was a sly fox hiding in the school wanting to gobble them up. Some thought maybe they were hiding in another classroom. We had so many fantastic ideas.

We really wanted to solve the mystery so we spent the afternoon making wanted posters to see if anyone could help us.

I hope we find them soon...

Why don't you comment below and tell us where you think they have gone?
